Nearby Sound
Listen to the live sound around your child’s Android phone when you want to check in — the walk home that’s taking too long, the sleepover you haven’t heard from. It streams only while you have it open, and is never recorded.

Listening
Live now
When you would use it
Moments it is for
Late from school, phone in a bag.
Ordinary background noise — a bus, a playground, friends talking — can give you a sense of where they are.
A place you don’t know.
A new friend’s house, a first trip alone. A short listen adds a little context.
When ringing would be worse.
A phone ringing out loud isn’t always the safe thing. This asks nothing of them.
Listen live, then end it
Not a wire. A short listen you open when you need it and close when you’re done.
Opens when you ask — Nothing is listening in the background waiting for you to check.
Ends when you close it — Leave the screen and the session stops on their phone too.
Never recorded — The sound streams while you listen, with nothing to play back afterwards.
For the moments between check-ins
It’s there for the times a message can’t answer — sound gives context, not certainty.

Calling them
Their phone rings, out loud, wherever they are.
A few seconds of sound
No ring, no screen lighting up in the room.
It is not invisible either — their phone shows the microphone indicator for as long as you are listening.
Why it helps
What Nearby Sound is really for
- For the walk that’s taking too longA little ordinary street noise can give you a sense of where they are, so you can put the phone down.
- When they can’t talkA child in a difficult room can’t always send a message. This asks nothing of them.
Plainly
What Nearby Sound doesn’t do
Worth being clear about, because this one sounds bigger than it is.
- It doesn’t stay onA listen happens because you started it, and stops when you close the screen.
- It isn’t recordedThe sound streams while you listen. There is nothing saved to play back afterwards.
- Sound gives context, not certaintyNoise, a bag or pocket, and a weak connection all affect what you hear. Audio alone can’t identify every place or situation.
- It isn’t a phone tapYou hear the room around the phone. FlashDroid doesn’t join their calls or read their chats.

Questions
Nearby Sound — the questions parents ask
Does my child know FlashDroid is there?+
Yes. FlashDroid is visible on their phone under its own name and consent is recorded at pairing — it isn’t a hidden or secret tool.
Is the sound saved anywhere?+
No. You hear the room while you’re listening, and there’s nothing to play back afterwards.
Is this a two-way call?+
No. You listen to the sound around your child’s phone; they don’t hear you, and it isn’t a two-way conversation.
Will the audio always be clear?+
No. A phone in a bag or pocket can sound muffled, and nearby noise or a weak connection affects what you hear. Sound gives context, not a certain answer.
Does this work on iPhone?+
Not yet. FlashDroid is Android only today, both the parent app and the child app.
