Safe on the web

Web Protection

FlashDroid helps block known harmful websites across the supported browsers on your child’s Android phone. Choose categories to block, and allow or block specific sites by name.

When you would use it

Moments it is for

  • A basic layer of web protection.

Switch off the categories you would rather they did not find — adult content, gambling and the like — by default.

  • A private tab, still filtered.

In the browsers it covers, an incognito tab is filtered like any other — it works where the phone looks up site names.

  • The school site must stay open.

Add it to your allow list by name, and no category switch can close it.

What it does

Inside Web Protection

  • How it works

The filtering happens on the phone, where it looks up site names. The names it looks up are saved to your account for 90 days so you can review them.

  • Categories you choose

Adult content, gambling and the rest — you pick which to block.

  • Your own lists

Allow a site or block one by name, whatever the categories say.

Choose categories to block

Adult content, gambling, drugs, violence — each one a switch.

  • By category — Block a whole kind of site without listing them yourself.

  • Or by name — Add your own — open a study site, close a distraction.

  • Change it any time — What suits a seven-year-old does not suit a fifteen-year-old.

Across the supported browsers, private tabs too

Filtering happens where the phone looks up site names, so a private tab is no different.

  • Not just one browser — It covers the browsers on the phone, not only the default one.

  • Private browsing included — In a supported browser, an incognito tab is filtered like any other.

  • Websites, not apps — It filters browsing. A video in the YouTube app or a chat in Discord is not covered — App Blocker is the tool for apps.

  • Blocked and allowed — Both, so you can see the shape of a day rather than only the refusals.

  • Grouped by day — Today, yesterday, and back through the last ninety days.

  • You’ll know if it’s off — Turning the filter off, or adding another VPN, shows up on your phone.

Why it helps

What Web Protection is really for

  • The sites you would rather they did not findAdult content, gambling, drugs and violence, each off by a switch. It is a curated list of well-known sites, not a claim about every page on the web.
  • Your call, by nameOpen a study site with an allow-list entry, block a distraction with a block-list one; you shape the list.
  • Across supported browsersIt works in the browsers on the phone, private tabs included — but it covers websites, not other apps. App Blocker is the tool for those.
  • Yours to adjustTurn a category on or off as they grow. Nothing is locked to an age you chose once.

Plainly

What Web Protection doesn’t do

Clear limits are more useful than a promise that does not hold.

  • It filters browsing, not appsA video inside the YouTube app or a chat in Discord is not covered. App Blocker handles whole apps.
  • It works by site name, not by pageFlashDroid sees which sites were looked up, never what was on them or what was typed. Those site names are saved to your account for 90 days.
  • No filter catches everythingIt covers known harmful sites across supported browsers, and tells you if someone turns it off. It is a strong layer, not a guarantee.

Questions

Web Protection — the questions parents ask

Does my child know FlashDroid is there?+

Yes. FlashDroid is visible on their phone under its own name and consent is recorded at pairing — it isn’t a hidden or secret tool.

Does filtering work in every browser?+

It works across the supported browsers on the phone, private tabs included — filtering happens where the phone looks up site names. It does not reach inside other apps, though: a video in the YouTube app or a chat in Discord isn’t covered. App Blocker is the tool for those.

Which categories can I switch off?+

Adult content, gambling, drugs, violence and more, each as its own switch. You can also add sites by name to block or to always allow.

What does my child see on a blocked site?+

A plain page from FlashDroid saying the site is not available, and a notification. No accusation, and the rest of the web keeps working.

Does FlashDroid keep a record of the sites?+

The filtering runs on the phone, and the site names it looks up — blocked and allowed — are saved to your account for 90 days so you can review them, then deleted. It records site names, not the contents of pages.

What happens if the filter is turned off?+

You hear about it. Turning the filter off, or adding another VPN, shows up as an alert on your phone.

Does this work on iPhone?+

Not yet. FlashDroid is Android only today, both the parent app and the child app.

At what age should I filter the internet for my child?+

From the first phone. A filter by category is not about trust; it keeps a child from landing on adult, gambling or violent sites by accident, which happens to curious children of every age. Loosen it as they grow.
