How to Make Chrome Safer for Kids on Android
Updated
Short answer
For a supervised child Google Account, use Family Link to manage Chrome.
Parents can currently:
- try to block explicit sites
- allow or block specific sites
- approve blocked-site requests
- keep SafeSearch managed
Google also disables Incognito for supervised child accounts in Chrome.
Step 1: use a supervised Google Account
Chrome controls are strongest when the child is signed into Chrome with an account managed through Family Link.
Step 2: turn on explicit-site filtering
Family Link offers “Try to block explicit sites.”
Google warns that filtering is not perfect.
Step 3: manage specific sites
Parents can add:
- allowed sites
- blocked sites
For younger children, approved-sites-only can be easier to reason about.
Step 4: keep SafeSearch managed
SafeSearch reduces explicit Google Search results.
Step 5: decide whether Chrome-only coverage is enough
If the child uses another browser, Chrome-specific controls may not cover that path.
A device-level filter can provide broader supported browser coverage.
FlashDroid is designed for that layer.
