AI Rules for Kids Ages 6–8
Updated
Short answer
At ages 6–8, AI should be treated more like a parent-supported learning tool than a private companion.
A simple family rule can be:
- Use AI with an adult nearby.
- Do not share your name, school, address or private photos.
- Ask AI for explanations, ideas or examples—not to do all the thinking.
- Do not use AI as a “friend” or for emotional support.
- Check important answers with a parent, teacher or trusted source.
Keep AI use visible
Young children may assume that confident answers are true or that friendly language means the system is a friend. Explain that AI predicts answers and can be wrong.
Good supervised uses include vocabulary explanations, simple quizzes, story ideas, spelling practice and examples of school concepts.
Teach one privacy sentence
“Do not tell an AI anything you would not tell a stranger.”
Examples include full name, home address, school, passwords, private photos and family financial details.
Make verification normal
Say:
“AI gives us an idea. We still check.”
Where FlashDroid fits
If the concern is access to an AI app on Android, FlashDroid can manage the app with an allow, limit or block rule. It does not need to read the child’s AI conversations to support a family time rule.
